Where does it go? Waste sorting in Lithuania

Type an item to see which bin it goes in, or whether it goes to a pharmacy, a deposit machine or a bulky waste yard. Search works in English, Lithuanian and Ukrainian.

111 items listed. If something is missing, an AI model suggests an answer, and often-searched items are added to the list.

In Lithuania, household waste goes into a few streams. The yellow container takes plastic, metal and carton packaging, and paper too where there is no blue paper container. The green bell takes glass bottles and jars. The brown container takes food waste and, in many areas, garden waste. What cannot be sorted goes in the mixed waste bin.

Bottles and cans with the deposit mark go back to a deposit machine in a shop, and you get €0.10 back for each. Furniture, appliances, tyres and hazardous waste go to a bulky waste yard (DGASA), free for residents. Batteries go in the boxes found in most supermarkets, and any pharmacy takes back old medicines.
